Police in Nakuru are pursuing more suspects believed to be linked to a series of burglaries in Tabuga and its environs following the arrest of a man found with an assortment of suspected stolen property and ammunition.

In an interview with Mtaa Wangu, Nakuru County Police Commander Samuel Boit said the suspect, Calvin Okoli, may not have been acting alone, prompting police to widen their investigations and pursue other individuals suspected to be involved in the thefts.

“We are pursuing more suspects over the thefts because Okoli was not acting alone,” Boit said.

Boit also noted that the suspect’s parents were pursued in connection with the recovered property as investigators sought to establish how the items came into their possession and whether they were involved in the alleged criminal activities.

He added investigators are now working to establish the full extent of the suspect’s alleged criminal activities and determine whether he is linked to other cases reported in the area.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns among residents over insecurity in Tabuga, with members of the community raising alarm over a series of break-ins reported in the area over the past two months.

Residents have also expressed concern over the unresolved murder of Tabuga PCEA parish pastor Julius Ndumia, which heightened fears and renewed calls for security agencies to strengthen investigations into criminal incidents in the area.

According to a post by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on social media, the suspect was arrested in an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Githioro Police Station.

The officers raided the house of the suspect in Free Area, where they recovered an assortment of items suspected to have been stolen during several burglaries.

The recovered property included two 43-inch television screens, two TV stands, three subwoofers, assorted clothing, bedding and footwear.

“Police recovered a pair of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) jungle trousers, a homemade toy gun, one live round and blank ammunition of calibre 7.62×51mm,” reads part of the post.

According to Boit most of the recovered goods have been positively identified by their owner marking a significant breakthrough in investigations into the reported burglaries.

The county commander went on to reassure residents that police patrol is being heightened in the county to ensure residents live without any fear or worry.

“We are encouraging community members to volunteer information on any suspicious activities to police for them to respond. Regular police patrols are ongoing with over 50 arrests being made, arraigned in court and their cases ongoing,” he noted
