The issue of the Karimbux land saga reared its ugly head on Friday after the Chairman of the stage Simon Nasieku came out pleading to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to help them reclaim their land that had been allegedly grabbed by private developers.

“0n 25th May, some unknown persons came and demolished our stalls at the Baringo- Karimbux stage and we sought help from the County Government and the security agencies in the county but we never got any way forward up to date,” he said.

He also highlighted how land grabbing has been rampant in Nakuru over the years citing instances of how the EACC was able to recover land in the Karimbux stage some time back.

These grievances were passed across when the EACC were carrying out an operation to recover grabbed land behind Taidys Hotel in Nakuru City Land Parcel No. Nakuru Municipality Block 5/149.

The EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said that this is the 21st out of 24 prime government houses that the government has been recovering in phases.

“We are working to recover land in the St. Xaviers estate and we have been doing it in phases. The land we recovered was worth Sh40 million belonging to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.  The recovery law suits for the remaining three are still in court,” he said.

He said that the Commission moved to court after the defendant’s family of former Member of Parliament for Aldai Constituency Jim Choge (deceased)  failed to voluntarily surrender the property as per the demand issued by the Commission.

“The Commission’s investigations established that on June 30th 1994, the then Commissioner of Lands, Wilson Gachanja fraudulently and illegally transferred the land including Government House; NKU/ HOU/ MG/27 built in 1964 to William Kimaru, who later transferred it to former Member of Parliament for Aldai Constituency Jim Choge.” he said.
