Njoro Politricks: Choppers, dance battles and cash handouts

To put it simply, Charity Kathambi, the MP for Njoro, didn’t just host an empowerment event; she threw a blockbuster. From the moment it began, it was less a 'development meeting' and more a political festival showcasing soft power.

The DJ was on point, the crowd was hyped up, and what about the MP? She was everywhere, dancing and cheering to make sure the energy never dipped below 'campaign season madness'.

But just as people were getting into it, cue the helicopters. Yes, plural. When Kimani Ichung’wah (MP for Kikuyu) and Sabina Chege (Nominated MP) decided to show up, they didn't arrive by boda boda or in a convoy like the rest of us. No.

They landed in style, bringing dust and drama with them and causing the event to pause completely while all eyes shifted to Sabina.

The crowd went wild, chanting and forcing Charity, the good host, to hand over the mic. Sabina got on stage, threw a few moves and pulled a couple of fans up to dance with her. They didn't leave the stage empty-handed.

She then pointed at random people in the crowd and told them to come forward, and requested that the MP for Kikuyu give them a small token of appreciation.

Then came the guest of honour, the Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki. His helicopter made an entrance that would have made Beyoncé proud. The crowd erupted.

And when he grabbed the mic? Oh, he got the memo, too.

"Mimi ni fire, si fire! Mimi ni fire, si fire! Mimi ni noma, si noma!" were the hallmarks of his speech at every juncture. You can say what you want about him, but he certainly knows how to move and engage the crowd.

"Rais amenituma na shillingi millioni 3. Mimi yangu nitasindikisha na sh. 1.2 million," DP Kindiki said.

This resulted in cheers and applause from the crowd. As the final blades cut through the sky and silence descended on Njoro, one thing became apparent: this was political theatre at its finest.

Empowerment? That depends on your definition. Entertainment? It was a 10/10 performance, worthy of a standing ovation.

Same script. Different constituency. Stay tuned!
