There is a new sheriff in town. Or in the case of Rongai, a new Sub County Police Commander.

This was confirmed by the Nakuru County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi.

"Cecilia Kemboi will take over from Wilberforce Sicharani who has been moved to Nairobi,” he says.

Asked whether the transfer was inspired by the insecurity cases reported from the sub county lately, Mr Ndanyi insisted that the transfer, was “as a result of the normal police transfers that take place from time to time."

In the last two months, Rongai Sub County has hit headlines due to gruesome femicide cases that have left the county baffled.

On August 9, Mtaa Wangu highlighted the case of Vera Mugambi a 31-year-old woman who was found murdered in a maize plantation in Baraka estate.

Two other similar incidences had occurred in the same Sub County within the span of a month, all within the same Sub County, raising serious concerns with regard to the high rate of insecurity in the area.

This forced the police to act and on August 18, the police through the help of the members of the public were able to arrest Ezekiel Sakwa Mwangi, the suspected serial killer who is believed to have carried out the murders in question.

Away from the murder, police officers in the sub county have also been faulted for a number of vices, including alleged harassment and extortion of residents.

Earlier, on July 22, NTV did a story of how police officers from the Menengai Police Station, were accused of haphazardly arresting unsuspecting residents and demanding bribes.

Most of the residents who spoke, narrated how they would be apprehended and bundled inside a police car and then locked up, only to be required to pay sh. 1000 to secure their release.

All eyes are now on Ms Kemboi to see if she will change the direction of this ship, as she takes on the helm of the sub county’s security docket.
