Nakuru Roads CEC reveals dams at risk of overflowing, calls for extreme caution

The County Government of Nakuru has released information on some dams located within Molo sub- county said to be at risk of overflowing, following the heavy rains that have been experienced.

The dams listed in the report are Ngenda , Sagaitim and Ndenderu B Dam. 

In addition to these, the county administration also noted that the dangerously full Chandera swamp and Mkorombosi river whose banks are broken also pose flooding risks to Molo residents.

Speaking to Mtaa Wangu in light of the newly released notice, the County Executive for Roads, Transport and Public Works, Eng. Michael Karanja noted, "In response to this notice, the county government has deployed a team including water engineers to visit the area and asses the level of the risk."

According to him, this assessment would also enable the experts know what areas would need the county's intervention in relocating the residents.

For the time being, the CECM urged residents to exercise extreme caution and urged those that live in low areas such as valleys to relocate to higher ground. 

"On top of carrying out assessments in Molo, we are also surveying other areas with dams to identify potential risks and to know what we (the county government) need to do to assist residents."

According to Eng. Karanja, the official report on the state of Molo's dams and their flooding risks will be ready by the end of day.

Molo's flood report comes shortly after the county issued an urgent notice urging to exercise extreme caution and additionally relocate from high risk zones.

Following flooding, loss of numerous lives and numerous properties, Nakuru county government has shared various hotlines for residents to reach out to when in need of assistance.
