Nakuru MCA mourns the death of brother run over by a garbage truck
Police from Nakuru are investigating a tragic incident that led to the loss of a life on Wednesday morning at an estate close to Kinuthia Mbugua Road, right behind Assumption Centre.
The tragic incident involved a stalled garbage truck that ended up running over a Nakuru local identified as Mohammed Ali.
While speaking to Mtaa Wangu, Nakuru East Sub County Police Commander Mohammed Wako confirmed the incident and shared that the accident happened at 10 am.
Mr. Wako reports, "The garbage collection truck was parked by the roadside. According to the received reports, the truck's horn had a problem and Mohammed Ali and the truck's driver got down to repair it as the rest of their colleagues were collecting garbage."
After a while, the colleague of the deceased got into the car to start it to make sure they had sorted out the issue.
"The truck was parked on a sloppy place and we suspect the handbrake hadn't been engaged. After igniting the truck, it began moving and ran over him. We are still investigating the matter to discover what really happened. If we find out that the carelessness was on the driver's end, then he will face the law," Mr. Wako closes off.
The truck is currently in police custody awaiting inspection to help provide more details.
Speaking on the tragedy, nominated Nakuru MCA, Hassan Hajji Duale, shared with Mtaa Wangu that the deceased is actually his younger brother.
"Mohammed was only 26-years-old filled with so much ambition, joy and love. He has left behind one wife and two children. We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss as a family," Hassan Hajji notes sorrowfully.
Mohammed Ali was laid to rest at 4 pm on Wednesday at the Bondeni Muslim Cemetery.
