Philemon Kimutai, a 24-year-old from Kiamaiko Village, is nursing serious injuries at the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital after he was attacked by a buffalo at the Lake Nakuru National Park.

Philemon, who was in the company of another person who managed to escape, is said to have trespassed into the National Park in the wee hours of Saturday morning around 2 am.

Speaking to Dadacha Joseph, Senior Assistant Director in charge of Central Rift Conservation he said that there were wardens who were on patrol at around 11 am on Saturday when they were able to spot him.

“The incident occurred near Out of Africa which is approximately 100 meters from the Lake. This section of the National Park is in the most interior part. Our wardens were able to find him in time and rush him to the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital,” he says.

Mr. Joseph says that he had sustained serious injuries from the attack, having a broken leg and bleeding extensively from different body parts, all the while he kept complaining of chest pains.

“In his possession we found fishing gear and sacks that he would use to pack the fish that he was going for,” he adds.

He concludes by urging members of the public to desist from trespassing into the National Park.

“National parks host a myriad of wild animals which are not so friendly and in such an incident the young man would have easily lost his life, therefore we urge all members of the public to avoid coming into the park illegally” he notes.
