Nakuru locals frustrated following sudden power interruptions
On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Kenya Power took to its social media pages to announce that some areas in Kenya were set to experience power interruptions on December 6, 2023.
Some of the areas listed were Nairobi, Laikipia, and Trans Nzoia.
However, the utility company failed to list Nakuru as one of the affected areas, something Nakuru locals weren't too happy about.
Aggravated Nakuru locals turned to their social media handles to complain beneath the social media announcement citing the inconvenience caused by the lack of an early warning.
The situation was also the same for locals kwa ground many grumbling about the inconveniences caused by the power interruptions throughout the day.
Speaking to Mtaa Wangu, Mary Wambua shared, "I deliver food to various places around town most of them being offices in buildings that have lifts. Due to the constant power interruptions throughout the day, I kept getting stuck in lifts and of course, customers weren't too happy about the food delays."
Also sharing Mary's unpleasant lift experience, John Muli shares,"Ata mimi nimekwama kwa lift for 10 minutes leo asubuhi as I was coming into work. The worst part about it was that the delay made me turn up late for an important meeting. Luckily, the people I was meeting understood since they had also gotten stuck in the lift minutes before I showed up."
The same frustration was also expressed by business people across Nakuru city.
Lilian Auma, a hairdresser at a salon in Nakuru CBD strongly brings out as she shares how frustrating the power interruptions are for businesses and most specifically, for salons and barber shops.
She shares, "In our building, we began experiencing power interruptions from yesterday. Power interruptions are frustrating, especially for clients who have to sit with their hair soaking wet as they wait for the power to come back for them to get a blow dry or for them to get into a dryer."
Nevertheless, Kenya Power seemed remorseful about the whole situation as they took time to respond to complaints on their social media page.
