Nakuru County has been ranked fourth among counties where bribery is rampant.

This is according to the EACC National Survey Report 2023 released by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) putting Nakuru alongside Busia, Baringo and Nairobi. In 2021, Nakuru ranked third with 26.7 percent rate in bribery prevalence.

The report further stated that the impact of bribe payments stands at 0.74 meaning, that each time a person is paid a bribe in the county there is a 0.74 likely hood of them receiving the service than if they did not pay the bribe.

The main reason cited as to why many people pay bribes according to the survey was because it was the only way that they could be able to access that service, while for others it was because the bribe was demanded.

Another group stated that giving bribes was as a means to avoid delays.

According to the EACC, public awareness campaigns should be intensified to educate citizens on the effects of corruption, as a way of mitigating this menace.

"There should be collaboration between the EACC and the other strategic agencies to ensure coordinated and effective approach to tackling corruption at various levels," the report read in part.
