Nakuru journalists bag awards at AJEA

On Thursday evening, journalists in Kenya came together at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, to celebrate top-tier journalists, during the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) 2023.

And as journalists from other regions bagged awards, so did journalists from Nakuru.

Winning under the ICT & Innovation reporting Digital Category were Miss Maryanne Nyambura and Evans Asiba from Royal Media Services. Their award-winning story was of locals from Eburru Mbaruk, Gilgil, who are tapping steam for Water.

Other Journalists from Nakuru who were nominated for the awards include Nation Media’s Brygettes Ngana and Sam Doe Ouko, Under the Agriculture and Food Security TV category on ‘Kenya’s GMO Quest’ and Health Reporting ‘Vaccine Heroes’.

From Standard Group, Joseph Kipsang’ was nominated under the print category for his piece ‘Athletes Trade Weapons for Running Shoes at Torongo Camp’, while Caroline Chebet was nominated for her story on ‘Ogieks Use Traditional By-laws to Conserve their Historical Land’ under the Development and Public Affairs, Print Reporting category.

AJEA is a continuous annual recognition and celebration of journalistic excellence and achievements cutting across mainstream media, print, and Digital including local and vernacular stations.

Speaking during the event, Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula congratulated all journalists for the commendable work they are doing to keep Kenyans and the world at large informed.

“I salute the Media for keeping our country informed. You have been at the forefront of the fight against corruption. The fact that the media bears fidelity to educate, inform and entertain, is a great responsibility, “he said
