Nakuru hosts clean cooking forum week for the first time
A vast majority of Kenyans, due to financial constraints or even lack of awareness, are using cooking fuel that is harmful to the environment.
This was revealed during the fourth edition of the 'clean cooking week 2023 forum' organized by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
The aim of the forum is to raise awareness of cooking practices that are 'clean' and environmentally friendly.
The forum which is being held outside Nairobi city for the first time, was officially opened by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Energy, Alex Wachira at Nyayo Gardens yesterday morning.
In his opening remarks, he shared, “We shouldn’t view clean cooking as something that separates the haves from the have nots, but rather, as a basic need.”
While listing the benefits of clean cooking, Rukia Bakari, senior renewable energy officer at the Ministry of Energy pointed out reduction in the death of smoke related complications, conservation of forests, time conservation and reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases.
With the aim of promoting clean cooking solutions, the forum hosted many clean energy providing companies and various responsible stakeholders.
Apart from being educated on clean cooking practices, members of the public also got to take part in exciting activities such as cooking competitions, raffles set aside for them to win and various goodies up for grabs.
The forum held in partnership with the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya will go all the way to 26 October 2023.
