Governor Susan Kihika has broken her silence after months of speculation about her whereabouts.

In an emotional Facebook post, Governor Kihika condemned the brutal murder of one of her constituents, 20-year-old Wanjiru Ng'anga of Kiboronjo in Waseges Ward, Subukia.

Describing the deceased, Ms Kihika wrote that Wanjiru was a young and ambitious woman who was pursuing her dream of becoming a mechanic in a field still largely dominated by men.

Her brutal murder, she says, has sent shockwaves through the local community and cast a shadow over the Easter celebrations.

"I strongly condemn the brutal and senseless killing of Wanjiru Ng'ang'a. Her tragic death has left our community heartbroken and in mourning, leaving us with a sad Easter holiday. I call on the relevant authorities to act swiftly and ensure that justice is done," Ms Kihika says.

"May her courage inspire us to protect and uplift every young woman who dares to dream beyond barriers," she added in her heartfelt message.

The governor's tribute did more than offer condolences; it sparked a conversation about justice, gender-based violence and the safety of young women.

Since November 18, 2024, Governor Kihika has largely stayed out of the public eye, raising concerns about her whereabouts and leadership in the face of several challenges in the county.

In September 2023, she made headlines for condemning the horrific murder of 12-year-old Jasmine, attending the child's funeral and offering support to the devastated family.

Again in November 2024, she spoke out after the widely publicised alleged assault of Florence Wanjiku by her husband, Pastor Elias Njeru, calling for swift justice and protection for women.

But despite a series of other gruesome murders and violent attacks on women in Nakuru County, the governor has remained silent.

Her selective approach to commenting on such incidents has drawn criticism from local residents who feel that more consistent and vocal leadership is needed, especially at a time when cases of violence against women appear to be on the rise.

Many are now calling on the governor to be more proactive, not just in moments that capture public attention, but in sustained efforts to address systemic violence, insecurity and gender inequality across the county.

The question now is whether this marks a turning point towards more engaged and responsive leadership from the governor, or a return to prolonged silence.
