The body of a 33-year-old man has finally been recovered from Lake Nakuru two weeks after an alleged drowning incident.

Daniel Muriu is said to have drowned on March 21 and has since been in the lake despite the appeal by the family to the county government for assistance of divers to help retrieve him.

His brother Simon Gatimu Muthoni, confirmed the recovery through a phone interview clarifying that the family opted to pay for the divers who were able to find him on April 1.

"The county had informed us that their divers would be available on April 2 and we couldn't wait. Through our efforts we found his body and took him to the Nakuru Annex Hospital Nakuru Farewell Home (Kwa Jack)," he notes.

He adds that a postmortem was conducted on April 2 by the county pathologist and it was determined that he'd drowned.

The family has been holding funeral prayers at their home in Kinungi, Naivasha sub-county and his body will be conferred on April 7.

The tragedy comes in the backdrop of a petition beng filed before the senate that seeks to have the house inspect the ecosystem of the Lake Nakuru.

Dr Peter Mbae, who appeared before the Senate Committee on National Security on March 31 successfully requested house to visit the Lake Nakuru ecosystem after the petition was accepted.

In addition, another proposal to conduct a new study to determine the suitability of fish in the lake has been approved, with the study expected to be completed within two weeks.

The committee in its recommendation further directed the county government to clean the rivers and other water sources draining into the lake.
