The Family of Desmond Kiago Mahugu is seeking justice after their kin was allegedly murdered by a bouncer at a splash bar in Upper hill area following a brief confrontation.

In an interview with family member’s Kiago’s aunt Milka Mihugu noted that his nephew owned an entertainment joint at the premises named Tripple Tee which had operated slightly over a year before his death. Adding that he also worked as a manager at Dr Mattress Nakuru Branch.

She noted that a confrontation ensued between Kiago and the bouncer identified as Raymond Odhiambo where they argued over the arrangement of the seats at the joint.

“The place has slightly over six bars each owned by different owners. The bouncer in question offered security at the bar adjacent to Tripple Tee. The bouncer took a knife which he used to stab my nephew on the thigh,” she explains.

Additionally, she noted that it took the intervention from Kiago’s friend to stop the person from stabbing him on the neck before he ran away leaving him for dead.

Milka said the knife injury affected a main artery on Kiago’s left leg forcing his friends to seek first aid for him in a nearby hospital. Thereafter he was rushed to Nakuru Specialist for further treatment.

Kiago’s younger sister Eva Nyawira said that she received the information of her brother’s condition when he was receiving treatment at the second facility.

She noted doctors advised the family that Kiago's condition was deteriorating and he needed to be checked by a cardio-vascular surgeon and undergo a surgery.

“On Saturday my brother was referred to a hospital in Naivasha where he underwent an eight hour surgery and was faring well. However, on Sunday developed some complications and had his first dialysis. He was later admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) but died on Friday,” Nyawira said.

The family is now appealing for support to clear the medical bill that accumulated to two million. They have so far managed to raise Sh 800,00.

Nyawira notes the family is now seeking justice to ensure the man responsible for her brother's death faces the law.

“I now remain as an only child to my mother, after my brother passed on last year. At 32 years my family is met with another, unfortunate event and my first-born brother is killed. Justice is all I want for the sake of my mother,” she appealed to the government agencies leading with the investigations.

Police have since arrested Denis Raymond Odhiambo the main suspect in the murder of Kiago and presented him in court where they sought 10 day to conduct investigations.

In the miscellaneous application detectives sought more days to have witnesses record their statements, review CCTV footage from the crime scene and also conduct a postmortem to establish the cause of death.

The case will be mention on June 18,2026
