Nakuru County has confirmed a case of monkeypox (Mpox) in a truck driver travelling from Mombasa to Rwanda.

The patient is currently admitted at the PGH isolation centre in Nakuru, according to the Ministry of Health.

This confirmation follows the testing of three samples from Nakuru at the National Public Health Laboratory, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to four.

Nakuru sent the highest number of samples for testing, with Busia County sending two and Mombasa and Migori Counties sending one each.

Mpox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus, with symptoms including rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes and body aches.

It is spread by direct contact with infected people, contaminated materials or sexual contact.

Preventive measures include avoiding close contact with infected people, not sharing personal items such as towels, utensils or clothing, and wearing protective clothing when caring for someone with Mpox.

You should also wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use hand sanitiser if soap is not available.
