On June 11, famous Nakuru blogger Adan Mohammed was heading to town from Barut riding on a motorbike when he was ambushed by five men at 2:00 a.m.
According to him, the armed men stopped the motorbike by throwing sticks at its tyres, bringing it to a stop and causing them to fall.
While on the ground, the men wielding rungus and pangas clubbed them while demanding they hand over their valuables.
Mohammed says that in the process he was stabbed in the chest while the bodaboda rider sustained a leg injury.
“I was heading to the matatu stage so that I could attend the leaders meeting in Statehouse, Nairobi, when I opted to be ferried on a motorbike since there were no matatus or taxis at that time. I got attacked and stabbed, and that’s when I surrendered and gave them my phone. They even slashed the tires of the motorbike so that we’d not follow them,” he says.
He adds that they were lucky that another motorbike passed by, and that’s when they warned him of the gang and requested to be taken to hospital for treatment and later on, sent another one to pick up the rider he’d left behind.
“I got first aid and had to sleep at a friend’s place before going to a nearby hospital the following day for a CT scan to ensure my internal organs were not harmed. While I have not made an official report to the police, I called the OCS of Kaptembwa police station, who knows my predicament. Once I recuperate, I will go and make an official statement,” he told Mtaa Wangu in a phone interview.
We contacted the Nakuru West sub-county police commander, Stephen Kirui, to find out if they had gotten similar reports of insecurity in the area.
“We have not received an official report of the case, and for now, we are handling the deaths that happened at Technology Farm and the other in London- Duncan Nderitu. We have not heard of any other similar or related cases of insecurity apart from the ones we are currently investigating,” he said over a phone interview.
This comes at a time where violent robberies have been reported in Nakuru county with areas of Pipeline, London and Ngata bridge being the most affected.
