A recent report by Mzalendo Trust, a non-partisan parliamentary monitoring organization, made shocking findings on the performance of the members of the National Assembly from Nakuru in the last four years.

Out of the 12 MPs from Nakuru who sit in the August House, the Rongai legislator, Paul Chebor perhaps stood out from the rest, having never uttered a single word in Parliament ever since joining in 2022.

“Paul Chebor has not made any speeches in the 13th Parliament as of yet,” read the report in part.

In addition to this, he has never moved or seconded any legislative contributions.

On the contrary, his Molo counterpart, Kuria Kimani, presents a striking divergence from him. Kuria, who also doubles as the chair of the Finance and National Planning committee, has made a total of 775 speeches in Parliament, and he has sponsored 5 bills.

The most famous one being the Finance Bill that brought the country to a standstill.

The Gilgil legislator Martha Wangari has had a busy three years, also sponsoring the Births and Deaths Registrations Bill that passed and time and again finding herself addressing the House.

The Kuresoi North MP, Alfed Mutai, has only addressed the House once in the last four years. With no legislative activity in the last four years.

His neighbor to the south, Joseph Tonui, has found himself on record 27 times and with no legislative activity.

David Gikaria, Nakuru Town East legislator, also joins his counterparts, Kuria Kimani and Martha, as he has sponsored 3 bills. The chair of the energy committee has also made significant contributions on the floor of the House.

The other legislators have gone on record in the House, however, are yet to make any legislative contributions.

They could be having different ratings; however, the common thing is that on June 20, 2024 all the legislators voted in favour of the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
