A school dormitory was gutted down by fire during a student unrest at Solai Boys High School.
The 88-capacity dormitory was turned to ashes by suspected student arsonists during the school unrest that occurred on Tuesday night.
Confirming the incident Nakuru County Director of Education, Victoria Mulili says the ministry has launched investigation into the incident which left some of the students in shock.
She notes that some of the students collapsed from shock before they were rushed to the nearest dispensary for treatment.
“Some students were affected by the unrest and had to be taken to the dispensary. They were treated and later released,” she says.
Mulili notes that, despite the fire, all students are safely accounted for and no fatalities have been reported.
She says education officials arrived at the school at around 7:30 p.m. and remained on site until about 1:00 a.m. to manage the situation and assess the damage.
Security agencies and officers from the Ministry of Education are investigating the incident.
Mulili says Quality Assurance officers are on the ground alongside police officers who guarded the scene throughout the night, while forensic teams have also been deployed.
“The dormitory has been fully cordoned off until crime scene officers complete their investigations,” she says. “After that, Public Works officers will assess the damage and provide a quotation.”
Mulili says that there is, so far, no clear motive behind the unrest.
