The not so busy Nakuru Law Courts today saw a buzz of activity which consequently brought the town to a standstill with the arrival of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.

The main entrance of the Nakuru law courts, all along the corridor up to the main entrance of the court was littered with heavy police presence.

The first session was highlighted with submissions from both the prosecution and defendants. There seemed to be a sense of calm and composure from both sides as they presented their cases.

The absence of Prof. George Wajackoyah and Former Minister of Defense Eugene Wamalwa was highly noticed as they have been at the forefront in supporting the accused with the former being a lawyer of the accused.

Other notable faces were Jeremiah Kioni and Mwangi Wa Iria.

After the first session the Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibeliyon ordered a thirty-minute recess for him to make his ruling.

Maina Njenga, his lead counsel Martha Karua and other leaders were escorted out of the court room as they awaited the judge’s ruling.

A large contingent of police officers guarded the accused outside the court room forming a human barricade between him and the public.

During the recess period, Prof. George Wajackoyah and Eugene Wamalwa arrived.

After the thirty minutes had elapsed and everyone was back in court, you could feel the tension in the full to capacity courtroom as everyone awaited the Principal Magistrate’s decision, who surely took his time before coming out and giving his ruling.

The highlight at the end of the session were the many journalists, lawyers and clerks who lined up to take selfies and pictures with the Roots Party leader Prof. George Wajackoyah.

As they left the courts, Mr Njenga’s supporters congregated outside asking that he speaks to them. Another group walked from court through Kenya Power singing folk songs.

However, the party was cut short after police officers lobbed teargas, dispersing them instantly.
