Maai Mahiu tragedy day 2: What we know so far

The aftermath after flooding water swept away families in Maai Mahiu.

1. The total number of people who have been confirmed dead by now stands at 46.

2. A total of 110 victims were rescued and are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Nakuru.

3. A total of 141 people have been displaced and are accommodated at Ngeya Girls school.

4. Some 76 people are reported to be missing. Rescue efforts by the county government of Nakuru, the National government, Kenya Red Cross and volunteer teams are ongoing.

5.There is nothing like the Kijabe Dam. The disaster was caused by over accumulation of water in a dark tunnel valley next to the Old Kijabe town Kenya Railway Station which forced its way downwards the river channel, leaving behind untold destruction.
