"I have faith in God and I believe that God will make it possible for my son to get the treatment he deserves."

These were the words of Faith Milka Moi, the mother of Gift Moi, about two months ago, as she appealed for financial support for her son's treatment, estimated to cost Sh2.5 million.

Gift fell ill in 2021. He was diagnosed with a cyst on his left upper jaw and was to travel to India for specialised treatment.

Fast forward two months later and her prayers were indeed answered as she was able to raise the funds.

Speaking to Mtaa Wangu, she said she was overwhelmed with emotion and very grateful.

"It was after June Moi's funeral that I contacted MP Oscar Sudi, Kenya Airports Authority chairman Caleb Kositany and a few others. They knew that my son was sick and that I was trying to persuade them to help the family, but it came to a point where I could not sit and watch my son suffer," she said.

According to Ms Faith, she managed to put together a fundraising event and they were able to raise a total of Sh6.2 million.

"We had already made the travel arrangements, but we lacked the funds to proceed with the treatment. So when we heard about this, the leaders came together and managed to help me raise the funds," she said.

Earlier on she posted the medical appeal on social media, Kenyans also came through and managed to help in various ways.

"We will be leaving for treatment on the April 26 and I believe my son will pull through. The good thing is that we were able to detect the disease early and he is a strong young man and he will indeed pull through," she said.

Speaking at the fundraiser, Mr Kositany emphasised the importance of being a brother keeper and that politicians should lend a helping hand out of the goodness of their hearts and not for political mileage.

"The young man has his whole life ahead of him and he should be able to live a comfortable life without worries and as leaders and as a community we are happy to have contributed to that," he said.
