Life of preacher accussed of rape in danger, court told

Mr Peter Kimondo at the Nakuru law courts grounds on March 17, 2025.
The life of a preacher charged with raping a 30-year-old Tuk Tuk driver two years ago is in danger. The court has been told.
The Directorate of Public Prosecution told the court on Monday that members of the public are baying for the blood of Mr Peter Kimondo and that releasing him on bond will put his life at risk.
Mr Kimondo, a preacher at the Christ Impact Church is facing two counts of sexual offences including rape and indecent Act against a Nakuru resident James Kiarie Mungai.
The offences were committed on May 27, 2022 at White house area in Nakuru East.
“I wish to urge the court to consider the high sensitivity of this matter before determining the suspects bond terms. The angry members of the public are waiting for him out there and we are afraid that his security may not be guaranteed,” stated the prosecutor.
He noted that action of the members of the public towards the suspect may disrupt public order peace and security, thus urged the court to deny him bond.
The claim by the DPP was in response to the application by the suspect who, upon denying the charges, sought to be released on reasonable bond terms.
The Ruiru based preacher through his lawyer Karen Esang claimed her client was entitled to bond terms as he was a law-abiding citizen and yet to be proved guilty of the offences charged.
The lawyer further noted that the prosecution has had over two years to investigate the matter which according to her was enough time to conclude all the investigation.
"My client is a mere pastor who has been serving in the church for consecutive Sundays. He is also a man of no means so the court should consider his rights as an accused person and free him on reasonable bond and bail terms," stated Ms Esang.
Nakuru senior resident magistrate Ruth Kepha is set to deliver her ruling on bond terms today.
