Two hippos have been found dead along the shores of Lake Naivasha at Kamere Beach, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Residents woke up to find the two hippos lying along the lake’s shores, appearing unresponsive. The animals were found a few metres apart.

A video seen by Mtaa Wangu shows the hippos struggling to lift themselves from the ground before collapsing again, moments that preceded their eventual death.

In an interview Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Senior Assistant Director for Corporate Communications Duncan Juma said the agency was awaiting postmortem results to establish the cause of death. Juma said the findings would help determine what led to the deaths of the two animals.

" A postmortem is being conducted today and we should be able to establish what killed the two animals. More information on this incident will be shared later on," Juma noted.
