As you pass the Olive Inn on your way to the Gioto dumpsite, you will see a new sign on your left. It reads Gioto Police Post.

To anyone living in the area, this would seem new, and rightly so, as a few weeks ago the sign read Kiamunyi Police Post.

The sign may be new, but the police post isn't. This is what used to be known as Kiamunyi Police Post.

According to Nakuru Town West Sub County Police Commander Anderson Njagi, for over five years there has been confusion between the boundaries of Nakuru Town West Sub County and Rongai Sub County.

"The reason for changing the police station to Gioto police station is because the police station is in Viwandani Ward which is in Nakuru Town West Sub County," says Mr Njagi.

He notes that Rongai Sub-county starts after Rubis and that is where we have Kiamunyi location and this goes all the way to Kabarak.

"Kiamunyi remains in Rongai because that is where the majority of Kiamunyi is, so to clear up this confusion we decided to get rid of the name Kiamunyi and change it to Gioto," he said.

He also notes that Baraka Police Post, which is located along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, also falls under Rongai Sub County.

"In the event of any incidents in these areas, Rongai Sub County Police would be the first to act, they would only come to assist since our jurisdiction is in Nakuru Town West," he said.

Speaking to Evans Sure, a Nyumba Kumi chairman in Kiamunyi, he notes that there has indeed been confusion as there is a Kiamunyi police post in Nakuru Town West and another Kiamunyi police post in Rongai, so this change would really help to clear up the confusion.
