KeNHA announces alternative routes as traffic piles along Nairobi-Nakuru highway

As early as today morning, there was heavy traffic jam along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, with clips making rounds on social media showing motorists stranded.

In response to this, the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has released a travel advisory, advising motorists to use alternative routes including;

1.       Naivasha -Njabini- Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet- Nakuru.

2.       Flyover- Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru.

3.       Ngong-Suswa- Narok- Mau Narok-Narok.

Motorists plying these routes are advised to exercise patience and observe lane discipline for their safety and that of other road users.

 “The Authority, with the support of traffic police, are at hand to give the necessary guidance and traffic control for a smooth flow in a bid to ensure you reach your destination safely and without delays,” read part of the statement.

Speaking to Allan Ogolla the Nakuru County Traffic Enforcement Officer through phone call, he confirms that earlier in the day there was a traffic snarl up in Lare area which slowly eased up as the day progressed.

“As we go into this festive season, the police are on high alert to ensure that all road users adhere to traffic rules and regulations. Additionally, we are working closely with other agencies involved in matters road safety such as KeNHA, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and Red Cross to make sure road users are safe,” Ogolla assures.

Additionally, he says, “We would like to urge all motorists using the road to be very careful and to follow the traffic rules, especially during this time when we have people travelling to various parts of the county for the festivities.”
