Evans Oluoch is a mechanic who works in Subukia and on one particular Wednesday he was at work repairing a Nissan Vinnete.

For Evans, the day began like any other mechanic's day, he was looking forward to finishing the job at hand and returning home. Hopeful that he would get to repeat the same uneventful cycle again the next day.

In his line of work, he rarely comes across anything out of the ordinary, especially anything that would make jaws drop and tongues wag.

In fact, his neighbours had little to say about Evans other than that he was a mechanic.

But thanks to this fateful day, his friends and neighbours now have a mouthful to say about him.

If Evans had the power to go back in time and change something  it would be to change the events of this day.

It was while he was working on a Nissan Vinnete, doing what helps him make ends meet, that he was suddenly arrested by the police.

In addition to this it was also discovered that the car he was repairing had 59kg of cannabis stashed inside.

At this point, Evans is taken into police custody and told to lead the police to the people who hired him to fix the car.

In an attempt to prove his innocence, Evans leads the police to two men who he claims were the ones who hired him to fix the car.

The two were found at a hotel in Nakuru city.

This is the event that has disrupted Evan's life and put him in a position where he is forced to prove his innocence or face jail time.

This is according to Evans' defence lawyer Mureithi, who spoke during his arraignment in court.

Ali Abdikadir Ali and Ortofa Dida, were arrested after Evans led police to the hotel where they were staying, were charged separately. He identified the two as the one who hired him to fix the vehicle.

Evans pleaded not guilty to the charge of drug trafficking and applied to be released on bail or cash bond.

According to Evans' lawyer, his client is a family man who has no previous convictions.

"The citizen has a fixed aboard and he will be willing to commit to appearing in court," Mr Mureithi said.

The three were granted bail in the sum of Sh500,000 or cash bail of Sh100,000. The matter will be mentioned on May 2.
