Evans Sibuko, a Kapkures resident was forced to drop out of Maseno University due to lack of fees.

“I joined Maseno University in 2021 to pursue History and Archaeology with IT, but had to drop out a year and a half later because of financial constraints. After the passing of my father, I had to come home and support my mother and two younger siblings,” he says, explaining why he wants to join the police service.

He further states that he has a passion for service work, having seen his father serve the country as a police officer before his death.

To him, joining the police means walking in his father’s footsteps and getting an opportunity to serve his country.

Sibuko says he had been following the announcements on the recruitment process closely, and once he learned that the openings were confirmed, he came to try his luck at the recruitment grounds.

“I am hopeful of getting an opportunity that will enable me to turn my life around and help my family. I would also like to wish everyone who turned up for this activity all the best,” Sibuko adds.

The officer in charge of the recruitment, Gilbert Fondo, notes that the turnout was as expected, with over 220 young people making it to the field by 6 am for registration.

“So far, everything is running smoothly. We kicked off the morning with the registration process, followed by a physical fitness test where the youth ran, and they are currently undergoing medical examinations. By the end of the day’s activities, we expect to pick 25 recruits. Twenty-one males will be selected while four females will be picked, with specific slots reserved for ex–National Youth Service (NYS) officers,” Fondo explains.
