Police in Nakuru will be presenting eight suspects in court today (Monday) following their arrest after they were found in possession of illicit substances.

In a phone call interview with Mtaa Wangu, Gilgil sub-county police commander, Winstone Mwakio, says the Police recovered 497 kilograms of suspected cannabis, packed in 21 sacks, after a coordinated search that lasted from evening, 9 Pm till the morning of February 14.

Other than that, he notes some were also made into rolls which were also confiscated as part of the evidence.

Mr Mwakio says of the eight, one is a 50-year-old lady whom they believe is the head of the group, with the others are male, aged between 24 to 27 years.

“The eight are currently in police station and are expected to appear in court on Monday. The confiscated cannabis has been sent to the government laboratories for testing, “he says.

Mwakio notes that after an extensive search, the Police cornered the eight in a four-bedroom house in Elementaita, where they had been conducting their illegal business.

“From the outlook of the house, I presume they do not live there but only conduct their business from there. The house is not furnished, but only has three plastic seats,” he says.

Mr Mwakio further commended members of the public for the tip off and providing information that led to the recovery and arrest of the suspects.

The suspects are currently in police custody pending arraignment.
