Business was brought to a standstill earlier today at the Nakuru Law courts after four remandees escaped from custody before being rearrested.

An officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Mtaa Wangu that the four were being taken to court for a hearing.

“We were taking the prisoners to court. They were in a group of about 50-60 people and were being accompanied by prison wardens. Just as we were approaching the gate near the children court four of them decided to make a run for it,' he explains.

He adds that the four started making their way on the road near the Governor’s office. Immediately the wardens shot in the air and ordered people to lie on the ground.

When the people were on the ground they were able to see them running.

Two were heading on the road of the County Commisioner’s office while other two were running towards Merica Hotel.

“The first two were apprehended near the County Commissioner’s office while the other two were apprehended near the Tower One building,” he says.

The four are among five people who have been charged with robbery with violence.

The individuals who escaped are among the suspects who were arrested in connection with the spate of robbery that took place earlier this year that involved the shooting of a police officer.
