How Farmers can access Subsidized fertilizer
Farmers in Nakuru can now access the subsidized fertilizer being distributed by the National Government in readiness for the march planting season.
Nakuru County is among 12 counties that will benefit from this pilot project.
County Agriculture Executive Leonard Bor, stated that as of today four of the six identified depots in Nakuru county; Nakuru depot, Naivasha, Olenguruoni, and Elbergon had received the fertilizers with Solai and Subukia depots expecting to receive the fertilizers by the end of this week.
He added that the Nakuru depot yesterday received 35,000 bags of both YARA and NPK fertilizers which are ready for pickup by farmers.
Once farmers receive their codes through their boards, they can present themselves to the nearest NCPB depots of the KNTC stores to collect the fertilizer.
“The farmers need to present their ID, and their phone number to a redeeming clerk at the depot. After, their data is generated and an M-Pesa prompt message comes to the farmer's phone for them to input their Mpesa pin to complete the payment. Through the clerks, they get the receipts after which they can collect the fertilizer,” he explained.
The Agriculture CEC added that farmers can now access the fertilizer from any of the six outlined depots.
The distribution will be done in accordance with how farmers did their registration, where the automated system will allocate how many bags each farmer needs in relation to the acreage of land one registered.
