On Friday last week, a body was reported missing at the War Memorial Hospital.

Questions arose as to how this came to be and when exactly this happened?

According to the Hospital Matron Patricia Musale, she knew that the body was still in the mortuary and it was only after she got the call from the Umash Funeral Home on Thursday February 22, 2024 that she realized the body was missing from their morgue.

“The morgue is within the hospital premises and to get to it you have to go through three gates. There are two exits for someone who wants to get out of the hospital; the main exit and the one that leads to Annex hospital.

I am the only one who has the keys to the morgue but I do not have keys to any of the other gates. It is still a puzzle how they managed to access the mortuary,” she said.

“Whether they went through the roof or they broke the wall to access the morgue still remains a mystery as I have not been able to access the mortuary myself to see how it came about, but the investigation now lies with the police” she said.

Ms Patricia said that upon realizing the body was missing from the morgue, she went to the hospital in company of the police, but upon arrival they were denied access.

“When we arrived, we were not allowed in and therefore we had to leave, without even getting to visit the facility,” she said.

She says by the time the hospital was being shut down on January 23, 2024, they had 17 bodies and were able to officially discharge the bodies.

“Due to the pending court case, we could not discharge the body in question and therefore it remained in our morgue,” she said.
