Police in Gilgil are investigating five men, suspected to be linked to the brutal murder of 12-year-old Jasmine Njoki.

Njoki’s lifeless body was found in a thicket in Kasambara, Gilgil sub county, with preliminary reports indicating that she was defiled before being murdered.

A reliable source from the police told Mtaa Wangu that initially one suspect was arrested but as days went by, the community brought in four more suspects.

Additionally, the source notes that DNA samples from the five suspects have been taken and that the results are meant to be released by the government chemist.

“Unfortunately, the government chemist has experienced technical difficulties with their machine for two weeks now.”

The source highlights that the five men have been asked to report to the Directorate  of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office when needed, in which they did on October 30 and are expected to show up at the investigations office on November 8 to ease and quicken the investigations.

Gilgil sub county police commander Francis Tumbo confirmed that the case is being handled by the DCI office in Gilgil.

“Police are welcoming anyone with information on the murder to come forward and help us nub the culprits involved,” said Mr Tumbo.

Njoki was a grade 6 pupil at Roots Academy and a first born in her family.

Her burial that was attended by top Nakuru leaders led by Governor Susan Kihika was marked by heartfelt calls for justice, asking the police and all security agencies to get to the bottom of the matter.
