An unknown group of men caused panic in Ngata after forcefully bringing down a 200metre perimeter wall belonging to a widow’s home, in a brewing land dispute.

When Mtaa Wangu arrived at the home, the rubble from the destruction of property near the private road leading to Dr. Elizabeth Langat's home had been cleared, as handymen were rebuilding.

The incident that occurred on November 17 at 3 a.m. has left Dr. Elizabeth fearful for her life.

"My life is in danger, and my hand is being forced into beefing up my security. The individual sent about 200 people to destroy my property, which I see as a direct threat to my life," says the widow.

Dr. Elizabeth says she was notified of the incident by her milk vendor in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

She adds that the perimeter wall was her security reinforcement, as trespassers frequently attempted to access her property by cutting down her kei apple fence.

"I've been living on this property for 36 years, and I've always lived here peacefully. I raised my children here, and now, for my property to be destroyed and the wall I had reinforced for security to be torn down, it's devastating. Being a widow, there are already many challenges in Ngata," she says.

Ngata area has been on the news in recent months with murders, insecurity, and land grabbing issues, to which Dr. Elizabeth alludes to there being a direct target to widows in the area.

"I've been threatened several times. A while back, the said individual came to my property, destroyed my store, took 360 bags of maize in there, cut two acres of maize from my farm, and stole it together with some building materials. This prompted me to report the matter, and now the issue is in court. So I do not know what they want,” she says.

Dr. Elizabeth adds that she is suffering and feels alone, having worked very hard only for her property to be destroyed maliciously.

“I want this matter to get to the highest level of authority, and I need to be helped. The fact that this person came in the dead of the night just shows how my life is in danger,” she insists.

Although she reported the matter to the police, she is calling on the authorities to take urgent action and ensure her safety, as well as to investigate the individuals behind the destruction of her property.
