Dear Madam Governor,

I hope this finds you well.

When writing the opinion piece about what Nakuru expects to happen in 2024, I thought I had covered all the bases, but I was wrong.

Through Mtaa Wangu’s social media platforms, different audience members came out and gave their own opinion as to what they want to happen in Nakuru this year.

Mtaa Wangu ran a poll asking which area the County Government should prioritize in 2024 giving the audience four choices; street lights, improved health services, completion of the Lanet airport and water accessibility.

On X (formerly Twitter), 43 percent of those who voted were more inclined to have the county administration improve health care services.

32 percent want water accessibility, 13 percent requested for completion of Lanet airport while 11 percent were concerned about the street lights.

However, on our Facebook comment section of the article titled ‘Three things Nakuru should do in 2024’ is where everyone met to give their two cents on the matter, most of them implying that Nakuru is a city in darkness.

Simon Bill commented saying that lights should be erected on all major highways.

"Put streetlights on from Free area to the Njoro interchange on the main highway. When you are entering Nakuru from Eldoret you will be shocked darkness rules the city," he said.

Another user DJflavour De Captain said, “Tackle crime in whatsoever means be it brutal especially in Nakuru West and Kivumbini.”

Most of the users echoed Simon's sentiments others also touching on the issue of Nakuru being a city yet it is not a 24-hour economy.

DK Karanja was actually very specific with his request saying, “Work on security save businesses mostly LangaLanga, KANU street.”

As for Njeri Bartlett, she asks that the county government to, “sort out its local tourism scene.”

Story shared on Mtaa Wangu Facebook page.

Mtaa Wangu also spoke to some of the residents to get a feel of what their New Year wish list looks like.

Paul Munyalo, a resident, says that the health sector is what should be given at most priority.

"When I talk of health services I would like to see improved service delivery and also the equipping of hospitals with the necessary medicine and equipment," he said.

Kabarak University President Karen Birech, says on her part, she would like to see you engage the university students and generally the youth so that you can understand what it is they actually need.

“I would like to urge the governor to help the youth especially in providing platforms where they can showcase their talents and abilities,” she added.

It is clear that all those in the various sectors expect a lot from the government this coming year. The only hope is that their wishes come true.

Yours faithfully,

Bret Sanya
