County administration reveals tree planting stations across Nakuru County
The Government declared a surprise public holiday on November 13, 2023, to promote nationwide tree planting as part of its ambitious plan to grow 15 billion trees by 2032.
This initiative is a response to the escalating impacts of climate change, such as droughts.
In Nakuru County, the main tree planting event will take place in Kabatini Thayu Farm, Bahati Sub-county. Over 4.5 million trees are set to be planted across the county.
This was revealed by County Environment Executive Dr Nelson Maara who said the county government has scheduled various tree planting activities across different sub-counties, emphasizing the importance of community participation in ensuring the success of this initiative.
He further highlighted that the public holiday serves as a significant step towards achieving environmental sustainability, adding that the seedlings will be provided in scheduled areas for the public.
The other scheduled tree planting activities will be led by county officials, as follows:
Nakuru Town West- Gioto Dumpsite
Nakuru Town East-Hyrax Primary School
Gilgil-Kenyatta Barracks
Naivasha Sub-county- Naivasha Sewerage Treatment Plant
Molo Subcounty- Enapuiyapui Swamp
Subukia- Tetu Subukia Farm

Environmental expert, Jackson Raini, has commended the government's commitment to this cause and encouraged citizens to actively engage in planting a variety of trees, including indigenous, fruit, and commercial trees, to promote a holistic and sustainable ecosystem.
Raini also stressed the need for the government to implement measures of planting the seedlings in protected areas to ensure their long-term growth and maintenance.
