The body of a man who drowned in Lake Elementaita three days ago has been recovered.

Raphael Lekakeny’s body was spotted floating on Saturday morning and was later recovered by the Nakuru County Disaster Response Team.

Karura village chief Boniface Mbage said the body was found at around 10am on Saturday about 100 metres from where Lekakeny was first reported to have drowned.

“The body was seen floating and was retrieved by a team of divers. We are relieved the search has finally ended,” he said in a phone interview.

Chief Mbage notes that the search had been intensified after two boats were brought in to assist the five divers.

The deceased is a relative of one of the managers at a resort located along the lake.

"The family has been waiting here since Wednesday and has been notified of the find," he says.

The body, which showed no signs of injury, has since been taken to the mortuary at Gilgil Sub-County Hospital.
