Boda boda operator elated after daughter who scored 416 marks secures full bursary
Like any other parent that would celebrate their child’s success, Charles Njoroge was over the moon when he learnt his daughter, Charlene Wangeci, had scored 416 marks in KCPE.
This was back in 2021.
His joy was soon overtaken by worry after a calling letter addressed to his well performing daughter came in.
Charles narrates, “My daughter was called to Pangani Girls high school. Knowing I couldn't afford the school fees, I had to quickly apply for a loan.”
However, the loan he had taken wasn't enough to fully cover his daughter’s fees.
“As a boda boda operator, my earnings are not enough to cover my daughter’s fees, he narrates, before adding, “I had come to the heart breaking realization that I would have to take my daughter to a day school that I could afford nearby.”
Luckily for Charles and Charlene, Governor Susan Kihika paid a visit to his daughter’s primary school during their prize-giving day.
“The governor visited my daughter’s primary school and learnt of our predicament. After which, she graciously offered to pay part of her form one fees.”
Charlene Wangeci is currently in form three still at Pangani girls thanks to the full scholarship bursaries.
Just like Charlene Wangeci, Rael Mukhwana is another beneficiary of the bursaries.
The student that is currently joining form three shares, “I am currently on fully funded bursary program.”
Rael Mukhwana and Charles Njoroge were among the many bursary beneficiaries that shared their moving stories at the bursary disbursement function that took place today at Nyayo Gardens.
The event was graced by Governor Susan Kihika where she launched the bursary fund worth Sh 342 million.
