A quiet Tuesday night turned chaotic at Nakuru Girls High School when students staged a disturbance shortly after evening prep at around 9:30 p.m.
According to school officials, the unrest escalated quickly as a group of students forcefully gained access to the examination and evaluation room, destroying all end-term exam papers prepared for every class.
While confirming the incident, County Director of Education, Victoria Mulili said the unrest erupted because the students did not want to sit for their end of term exams that were to begin today.
“We managed to arrive at the school in good time together with the security team and we managed to contain the situation. We were there till the break of dawn to ensure all was well. Fortunately, no students were injured and there was just some minor damage to the school property,” Ms. Victoria says.
Additionally, she says that due to the unrest the students were sent home earlier in the day today.
“I had a talk with the students yesterday and we agreed that they would go home and do the exams the first week of reporting,” Victoria adds.
Following the disruption, the board of management at the school have to find a way to rework the school calendar.
Mtaa Wangu has seen communication made to the parents dated July 23, asking them to make prompt travel arrangements for their children. The school would remain closed till further notice.
