The year 2023 will go down in the history of the education sector as a year that saw the end of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

Over the years, Nakuru County has been a giant in the education arena thanks to a number of top performing schools.

Gilgil Hills Academy, St. Peter Elite Schools, Roots Academy and Moi Primary School, Kabarak are just some of the schools that put Nakuru on the map when it came to producing academic giants in Kenya.

This was evident even in this year’s results when Emmaculate Wacheke from Gilgil Hills Academy emerged the second-best student in Kenya, after scoring 427 marks after the first top candidate who scored 428 marks.

Amidst all the celebration, Moi Primary School, Kabarak an academic giant in the region went quiet.

The following day, the school released a communiqué saying the results that were released did not reflect the ability of the leaners on merit.

This came in the wake of many other schools claiming that the national exams were bungled, making many students appear to have failed.

“We have therefore appealed to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to review the same and hope that they will look into the matter and act swiftly," said Nelson Kiptoo, head teacher of Moi Primary School Kabarak.

In 2021, according to the school website, the top student scored 425 marks and was among the top ten candidates in the country. In addition to this, the school had a total of 246 candidates. 80 of them had 400 marks.

In 2022, according to the school website, the school had 78 candidates out of a candidature of 254. The first pupil had 425 marks.

Taking a look at the school website in search of the school’s 2023 results, they are yet to be posted.
