Were it not for an intelligence tip off from a member of the public, Police Constable Ezekiel Juma would not have known of a bhang peddling business that was taking place in Kiratina.

Juma told the court that on 19th July 2025, while on patrol with other officers, they got this information and they quickly swung into action.

While at Kiratina they came across George Mwangi Ng’ang’a, the man who they had been informed was selling bhang and they conducted a search.

According to Juma the intel was correct as they managed to find him with 32 rolls of bhang valued at Sh 1,600.

He was taken to the police station and arraigned. At the Nakuru law courts he was charged with possession of narcotic drugs.

The cannabis sativa was taken to the government analyst and it was produced as an exhibit.

When the prosecutor narrated the events that led to his arrest, Ng’ang’a agreed with the prosecutor, admitting that indeed what he had been charged with was true.

However, he defended himself saying that the court should be lenient on him and that the bhang was for his personal consumption as he is a casual labourer.

Resident Magistrate Edward Oboge sentenced George to 30 years in jail or pay a fine of sh. 30 million.
