A 23-year-old man suspected of killing an 18-year-old Form Four student in Molo has been arrested after detectives traced him to a hideout in Kuresoi North.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says Walter Kipkoech was arrested in Lagwenda village following a sustained manhunt by detectives from Molo and the Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters, Rift Valley.
The DCI says Kipkoech was arrested in connection with the killing of Joy Wangui, a Form Four student at Molo Secondary School, whose body was found in a house in the Kiambaa area of Moto Location.
According to the DCI, Wangui’s brother returned home after briefly going to a nearby shop and found her body in the kitchen.
Detectives who visited the scene recovered an axe, panga and two knives which the DCI says had bloodstains and were found near the body.
The DCI says Wangui’s head was later found in a corridor, where a message had allegedly been written on the wall in blood.
“I love you Joy but never cheat, am sorry,” the message read.
The DCI says preliminary investigations indicate that Kipkoech and Wangui were in a relationship, with detectives pursuing a possible dispute in the relationship as part of their investigations into the motive.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was allegedly wearing a blood-stained boxer, a white T-shirt bearing Wangui’s name at the hem and black jeans with visible dry blood stains, the DCI says.
Kipkoech was taken to Molo Police Station, where he was being processed pending arraignment as investigations continued.
The DCI says detectives are continuing to piece together the events surrounding Wangui’s death.
