A 23-year-old university graduate was on Monday arrested in connection with the leaking of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Collins Kipchumba Kemboi, a graduate of Human Resource Management was arrested from his house in Kiamunyi by the detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nakuru who were acting on intelligence information.

Kipchumba is said to have been peddling leaked KCSE examination papers to parents and candidates sitting for the exam at a cost of between Sh 700 and Sh 850 per paper.

Disguised as a female named Dorothy Jerop Kiprono, Mr Kipchumba is alleged to have been selling the leaked exams to clients on his Telegram and others through WhatsApp.

The DCI in their statement published on their official page on X revealed that the suspect has a total of over 78,000 followers on Telegram and about 8,500 people on WhatsApp.

DCI note that the suspect is a notorious criminal who has been a headache for the Kenya National Examination Council, in its fight against exam malpractices.

“In an all-out war to curb the unbecoming practice of cheating, the DCI officers attached to KNEC jointly with their Nakuru county counterparts sharpened their claws on the miscreant, pouncing on him at his house in Kiamunyi,” read part of the statement.

The detectives confiscated a smart phone, several sim cards and Identity cards registered under different names as well as a driving license.

When he appeared before court on November 12, the police requested for 14 days to conclude investigations. Principal magistrate Vincent Okello however granted them seven days.

The case will be mentioned on November 19.
