Win for kickboxing in Nakuru as 32 players make it to national team
32 kickboxing players from Nakuru have been selected to join the national team.
In the light bantam category Reuben Livusi stands out. An upcoming star hailing from Bondeni, the 16 year-old, has managed to put Nakuru on the map.
Speaking to Mtaa Wangu, Livusi says that this is his second year in kick boxing.
"I got my inspiration for kick boxing after watching the game on TV. So far, I have participated in four tournaments," he said.
He continues to say that this boosted his confidence going into the qualifications and even though he knew that they would be tough, he believed in himself.
"When I was announced as the winner I was over joyed and I am very humbled that I will be representing my country" Livusi adds.
He concludes by saying that this sport presents a platform for him to express his talent and in the future if the opportunity presents itself he would like to be a full time kickboxer.
"I have always looked up to Isaac Kibe as my idol and even as I go represent the nation I hope to emulate his success."
According to head coach Dan Owino, Nakuru alone has about 32 players who are in National team taking up 70 percent of the entire team.
Coach Dan adds that the main problem they are facing is lack of sponsorship.
"Most of these children come from humble backgrounds and we are really doing our best to show them that they can really do so much more with their lives and not just get into vices. If we could find someone to help sponsor these children and support them in their talents, it would really go along way" he said.
