The Kenya Cup regular season came to an end last weekend.
Gibson Weru's side sealed their place in the play-offs after beating Catholic University of East Africa Monks.

The season saw some exciting matches played at both Refinery and Nakuru Athletic Club.

The highlight had to be the derby between Menengai Oilers and Nakuru RFC and as expected, the match did not disappoint as the rivalry between the two teams has been unrivalled over the years.

On top of that, the two teams were tied at 3 wins each, which made it all the more interesting as a win would not only give them points in the Kenya Cup, but also the right to call themselves the best rugby team in town.

With that in mind, it was more than just a game and at one point things got heated and the players got into a scuffle.

The game had to be stopped for a while to settle the matter. The Oilers were successful and won the round.

Wanyore fans, who had high hopes of their team winning, were very disappointed and the fact that they lost on their home ground made it all the more painful.

The other match was between Bankers and Oilers at the Refinery. Coming off the back of a loss to the Sugarmen (Kabras) at the Forest, the Oilers had a lot to prove at home.

With that in mind, the team put on their best performance and managed to beat the Bankers.

You may be wondering why this win was so special, well it was because they ended KCB's unbeaten run. This win went a long way to cementing their position in the play-offs.

Comparing the performance of the two Nakuru teams in the last two regular seasons, Nakuru RFC finished 6th in 2022 while they are 7th this season.

Menengai Oilers seem to have maintained the same position of third in both seasons.

In Nakuru, the Oilers supporters will have the bragging rights as their team made it to the play-offs while Wanyore will have to go back to the drawing board and re-strategise.

Kisumu RFC, who have a record of two wins, one draw and seven defeats, will host their replay in Nakuru against Kenyatta University Blak Blad in a formality game to be played next Wednesday.

In the play-offs, Menengai Oilers will face Blak Blads on March 16.
