Kabarak University hosted the Nakuru Universities and Colleges League over the weekend, which saw various college and university teams competing.

The tournament featured a myriad of matches on both the men’s and women’s sides.

The most awaited game of the day was Kabarak University going head-to-head with Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST).

The match was fast paced with RVIST dominating from the beginning. In the first half, John Awer pulled a thunderous dunk on the Kabarak players.

In the second half, the Kabarak team tried to stage a comeback but their efforts were futile as RVIST were on the driving seat.

The Most Valuable Player Abednego Ndege kept scoring basket after basket, living the fans urging the referee to stop the match, as the home team were losing.

The match ended 34-47 in favour of RVIST.

In an interview with Mtaa Wangu, Ndege said being a basketball player in Nakuru, it has been hard for him to find a platform to sharpen his skills.

"This tournament is giving me the exposure that I have been looking for," he says smiling.

According to the Secretary General of the league Fidel Ogolla, the main goal of the tournament was to create a platform where the youth come to have fun and interact with each other.

“Over the years, I wanted someone who could give me a chance to enhance my dreams of being a professional basketball player but unfortunately it never happened. This is our first year doing this and we hope to grow," he adds.

Mr Ogolla says six universities and colleges are currently competing in the league.
