The regular season of the Nakuru Universities and Colleges League (Nakuball) came to an end on October 26, having displayed exciting and nail-biting highlights.

Worth noting, is the entry of some new comers, including Dykaan College, Samburu Mambas, National Youth Service (NYS) and Mount Kenya University teams who in the course of the regular season have proved to be a force to be reckoned with.

The most impressive team has to be Samburu Mambas who came in as underdogs and surprisingly went on an unbeaten run for most of the season.

With their well-executed plays and conversion of three-point baskets, they managed to sail through most of the season as the team to beat.

On the flip side RVIST Rockets, Kabarak Royals and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) teams proved to still be the top cream of the league, after finishing top three in the regular season ranking.

Instead of employing their fast break style of play as they did last season, the RVIST Rockets went for a more relaxed style of play.

This proved to work as they managed to finish first in the regular season.

On the ladies’ side, things were not any different as RVIST Ladies Rockets, JKUAT ladies and Kabarak Royalties finished their regular season in that order.

The NYS Ospreys who were coming into the league for the first time were very impressive all through the season, bringing in an aggressive, fast pace game into the mix that saw them dominate their opponents.

All this remains in the past, as we now go into the playoffs.

In the ladies’ category the RVIST Ladies Rockets who are the defending champions will be taking on Kabarak Royalties in an old-fashioned Moi derby classic that is set to be a remarkable match.

NYS Ospreys will face JKUAT ladies. Here, the JKUAT ladies will seek to emulate the success of their men team who were crowned last year’s champions, but on their path to victory, they will have to face the bold and tenacious NYS ospreys.

In the men’s category, last year’s runners up RVIST will go head-to-head with Nakuru Teacher and Training College (NTTC) Bucks’. If the regular season is anything to go by, then the Bucks truly have their work cut out for them.

The defending champions, JKUAT will seek to maintain their spot at the top, as they go head-to-head with the Laikipia Rubbles.

In other matches, Samburu Mambas will go head-to-head with NYS warriors as Kabarak Royals face MKU Mountaineers.

The question remains, who will be crowned this year’s champion?
