Nakuru Rugby Football Club’s (Wanyore) chairman Aggrey Omiyo has been suspended over financial mismanagement.

His suspension through a letter dated November 26, 2025 followed an accounts audit and internal investigations into the management and utilisation of club funds and resources exposed financial irregularities.

According to the clubs Main committee, “The chairman is found guilty of gross misappropriation of club funds, which constitutes a serious breach of trust and violation of the standards expected from his office.”

In the letter, the committee notes that the revelations placed the club’s relationship with its key sponsor in a delicate position, with calls for restructuring and stronger accountability measures to restore trust and safeguard continued funding.

“The Audit which was demanded and facilitated by our main sponsor has left the club relations with the main sponsor at a state of circumspection with demands of restructuring to ensure transparency and accountability to Win back the trust and retain funding,” reads part of the letter.

As a result, Omiyo has been suspended with immediate effect for a period not exceeding three months, during which the club will convene a Special General Meeting (SGM).

The meeting will allow members to interrogate the audit report, assess leadership at the top, and determine the way forward for the club.

The suspended chairman was instructed to immediately cease presenting himself as an official of Nakuru Rugby Club and to surrender all club documents, assets and materials in his possession to the club secretary within 48 hours.

“Fully cooperate with any follow-up processes that may arise from this matter. This decision is necessary to safeguard the integrity, stability, and future of Nakuru Rugby Club. We appreciate your cooperation during this transition,” reads part of the letter.

When reached out for a comment, Omiyo denied receiving any dismissal letter maintaining that hie is still the club’s boss.

“There's no letter. There's nothing like suspension,” Omiyo says while responding to the question of the legitimacy of his suspension letter seen by Mtaa Wangu.

He denies the allegations of gross misappropriation of club funds, terming them a political witch hunt.

Omiyo also sighted his concerns on how the power play and allegation would jeopardize the club’s sponsorship affecting the Nakuru RFC players welfare.

The letter, signed by Nakuru Rugby Club, Hon Secretary Wesley Kidinga, was copied to the secretary Kenya Rugby Union, Nakuru Athletic Club, club patrons and the Kenya Cup Chairmen Caucus.

Speaking on a phone call a top Nakuru RFC Club officials who sought anonymity with us confirmed the legitimacy of the letter, emphasizing that a  copy of Omiyo's suspension was also before the Kenya Rugby Union.

"Omiyo has been suspended by the committee based on the audit's report findings. What will follow is the involvement of authorities for an external investigation," they note

On February 11, 2025 ,Nakuru RFC received a significant boost after officially partnering with Smart Applications International, which announced a Sh 2.5 million sponsorship for the team.
