The 2026 Nakuru Wazee Premier League season has kicked off with renewed energy, building on the momentum of a highly competitive 2025 campaign.
Last season, Mwenge Vetos FC emerged as champions after amassing 53 points, while former 2024 winners Old Friends FC settled for second place with 46 points.
However, as the new season unfolds, the balance of power appears to be shifting, with Old Friends FC making a strong statement early on by securing five consecutive wins without a loss.
Meanwhile, Mwenge Vetos FC, the reigning champions, have begun their title defense amid both optimism and challenges.
Speaking during a season review, team manager Jamin Wandera acknowledged the hurdles the team has faced but emphasized their determination to remain competitive.

He noted that their previous success was anchored on teamwork, hard work, and learning from past mistakes, which ultimately enabled them to recover and dominate the league.
Furthermore, Wandera highlights that last season’s achievements went beyond just winning the title.
"The team managed an impressive run, winning both home and away matches, and even advanced to the Champions League level, marking a significant milestone," he says.
In addition, he points out the importance of camaraderie in football, explaining how the league has fostered unity among players through travel and interaction, making the sport a platform for bonding and social connection.
However, despite these successes, financial constraints remain a major concern. Wandera reveals that the league is currently self-funded, with teams digging deep into their own pockets to sustain operations, including prizes and administrative costs.
Consequently, he made an appeal to sponsors, well-wishers, and donors to support the league, expressing hope that with adequate backing, the competition can grow bigger and better in the 2026 season.
