The 2025 edition of the Great Rift 10 aside Tournament got off to a flying start at the Nakuru Athletics Club (NAC) with a full day of exciting rugby action. However, unlike previous editions, the opening matches were played with a noticeably low turnout of fans.

Despite this, the quality of play was unwavering, rugby was being played and it was being played well.

As the sun began to set, the third session saw a surge of fan energy, with crowds beginning to trickle in, bringing life and thunderous cheers to the ground.

Each try gave the fans an adrenaline rush, and hitting the iron sheet was their best attempt to let the players on the pitch know they were proud of them, alongside the cheers. The atmosphere was electric, adding fuel to the fire on the pitch as the players responded with determination.

Menengai Oilers, returning to the tournament after missing out last year, made the biggest statement of the day. They dominated Egerton Wasps with a stunning 73-5, the highest score of the day and a clear warning to their rivals. The Oilers are back and they're hungry for silverware.

On the other hand, Kabras Sugar, the reigning champions and winners of the 31st edition in 2024, were also on a mission. On the field, they were nothing short of ferocious, bulldozing their way through Pool A with dominant wins including a 48-5 thrashing off Catholic Monks and a 39-7 hammering of Nakuru Kiti. A clear indication that their sights are clearly set on defending their title.

Hosts Nakuru RFC have also shown that they want a piece of the action. With a perfect record on day one, including a 22-7 win over Molo RFC and a solid 48-0 shutout of NYS Scorpions, the Wanyore are making it clear that they are serious about lifting the trophy on home soil.
