Match day six of the Nakuru Universities and Colleges League (Nakuball) saw teams return to action after a short break, with games being played at the Mount Kenya University (MKU) ground.

Of the returning sides, it was Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI) who made the biggest impression, establishing themselves as serious title contenders.

From the first whistle, KITI displayed a level of cohesion and chemistry that few teams in the league could match.

Their opening match against hosts MKU set the tone for the day. KITI stormed out of the blocks with a flurry of quick baskets, leaving MKU struggling to adjust. Despite their best efforts, the hosts trailed 6-17 at the end of the first quarter and 11-19 at half-time.

MKU attempted a late surge in the second half, but the deficit proved insurmountable. A thunderous dunk from Deng Mussel in the final quarter sealed the victory for KITI, who ran out 46-39 winners.

KITI's second test came against Savana Mambas (Samburu), a team smaller in stature but bigger in heart. The Mambas managed to keep pace early on and the first quarter ended in an 11-11 deadlock.

They cleverly drew fouls from KITI's big men and converted free throws to keep the game close throughout the first half.

But KITI's transition game and defensive discipline eventually overwhelmed the Mambas. A strong second half secured a 52-45 victory - their second of the day.

Speaking after the match, KITI captain Ayiei Ayom attributed their performance to well-developed teamwork and shared commitment.

"Our success today was down to great team chemistry. Everyone brought their A-game," said Ayom. "This is our first season in Nakuball and we were attracted by the high level of competition. We're here to compete with the best.

When asked if his team could dethrone two-time champions Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Ayom didn't hesitate.

"We are here to win the championship. At the end of the season, the trophy will come home with us.

JKUAT point guard Klinsmann Orina, however, remains unfazed by the new challengers. "I'm looking forward to playing them," he said. "But I don't think they're a serious threat to our title defence."
